Automated Universal Test System
NASA MSFC requires an automated universal test system for tensile, flexural, and compression testing of rigid plastic specimens, featuring automated specimen handling, dimensional measurement, strain measurement, data acquisition, and unattended batch testing within a compact footprint. The system will be delivered to MSFC Building 4475 and installed in one of two hot cells used for radioactive materials work. The agency intends to issue a sole-source contract to Instron (Illinois Tool Works Inc.), citing compatibility with existing equipment and the Instron AT3's unique combination of 300 kN capacity, automation, and roughly 5×7 ft footprint. Interested parties may submit their capabilities for evaluation to determine whether the acquisition could be competed.
