NASA Johnson Space Center intends to modify an existing contract with Optical Coating Laboratories to build a specialized shipping container for a telescope mirror. The container is required to safely transport the mirror, which the contractor currently possesses, to Ascension Island. The modification is justified as the current vendor is the only responsible source due to its unique knowledge of the mirror's delicate state. The modification will be awarded under simplified acquisition procedures.
