NASA issued a justification supporting a sole-source modification to its xEVAS contract with Axiom Space to add CLIN 5 for xEVA system hardware production and delivery. CLIN 5 covers development, upgrades, enhancements, sustainment, maintenance, repair, and refurbishment. The CLIN 5 period of performance runs from modification issuance through the xEVAS ordering period end date of May 30, 2032, without extending the overall contract period. NASA Johnson Space Center modified the contract on October 22, 2026, under the “only one responsible source” authority because Axiom is the only xEVAS contractor actively developing a lunar-capable xEVA system. NASA’s market research found no alternative source capable of meeting integration, compatibility, and schedule requirements, and award elsewhere would cause substantial cost duplication and unacceptable delays.
