Space Power and Reactor Capabilities (SPARC) - Sources Sought Notice
NASA plans to release the SPARC Final RFP on or around November 20, 2026, following a Sources Sought Notice posted August 3, 2026, and a Draft RFP posted August 30, 2026. SPARC will be competed as a multiple-award IDIQ contract covering design, development, analysis, fabrication, assembly, verification, validation, test, evaluation, certification, delivery (ground and/or space), and sustaining maintenance and operations of space nuclear systems, subsystems, hardware, materials, and software. It is intended to be NASA’s preferred contractual mechanism for task orders related to DDT&E of the Lunar Reactor-1 (LR-1) system. Concurrently, NASA intends to compete the first SPARC task order, LR-1 Phase 1, which requires a PDR-level LR-1 design, an electrically heated integrated system test using an engineering test unit in a relevant environment, and component-level radiation exposure testing. Interested parties are encouraged to review the Draft RFP posting for acquisition information, including the Industry Day presentation and Q&A.
