Amendment 1 - Updated RFI Languge Amendment 2 - Attached Joint AR System Background Document for Reference Amendment 3 - Attached Helmet OML Information and Set of Questions & Answers Original Posting - Future suited crew operations will be expected to be more self-reliant, as communication time delays constrain the ability for crew to interact with mission control support from Earth in a real-time capacity. The space suit compatible AR system is a proposed crew autonomy enabling technology to help cope with future mission work demands during extravehicular activity. NASA is soliciting information for potential sources for a spacesuit augmented reality (AR) display system or solution providers. Known as the Joint Augmented Reality Visual Informatics System (Joint AR) project, NASA aims to realize a spacesuit compatible AR system that is comprised of a display, control, and compute subsystems. This RFI is for information and planning purposes and to allow industry the opportunity to verify feasibility of the requirement, as well as inform NASA about existing technologies or technologies in development that have the potential to solve the unique demands of a space suit AR display system. This RFI is focused on display source and optics technologies needed to present visual information to the crewmember in the suit, however broader context and additional background information on the Joint AR System and its operational usage can be found in the attached AIAA paper. (AIAA 2022-4235) Please see attached documents for RFI details.
