Glenn Research Center (GRC) is home to the Electric Propulsion and Power Laboratory (EPPL) and Vacuum Facility 6 (VF-6) is the largest thermal vacuum chamber at GRC. The existing roughing train for VF-6 uses an oil based rough pumping train. This system works well for pumping the chamber from atmosphere to rough vacuum. The problem with this method is that it saturates all components downstream of the rough pump with rough pump oil and it presents a risk of oil back streaming in a test facility that is very vulnerable to that contamination. By replacing the oil based rough pumping system with a dry system we can ensure that we will have a clean dry test facility. This combined synopsis/solicitation is for the purchase of a dry roughing train for VF-6. See attached RFQ for additional details.
