The Library of Congress (Library) has prioritized enhancing visitor experience through the Visitor Experience Master Plan (VEMP). The VEMP was developed in response to and in keeping with the Library’s Strategic Plan, Preliminary Experience Plan, and priorities voiced by core stakeholders. Some key elements of the VEMP include inspiring visitors to learn more about Congress, democracy, and civic engagement, and ensuring that diverse audiences, including younger patrons, are welcomed, inspired, and empowered to discover and explore the Library. These guiding principles laid the foundation for the Southwest Corridor, a participatory space currently being designed for youth ages 9–13 on the ground floor of the Thomas Jefferson Building. The Corridor is a place where curiosity is valued, research is modeled, and community is celebrated. This space is unique and wholly new to the Library. It is intended for families to engage with reproductions of Library materials in a research-style experience. This space will include representations of Library collections across media, including photographs and multimedia elements. The Library requires a contractor to research to identify images and sound and film clips, identify and secure rights and permissions and prepare images, film and television clips for use in this space.
