The Library of Congress (Library) requires contract support to carry out activities related to digital formats that require specialized expertise. The Library's well-known and highly regarded Web site on the Sustainability of Digital Formats (http://www.loc.gov/preservation/digital/formats/index.html) supports the Library's digital preservation and digital acquisition planning. The Formats Web site contains information on more than 500 formats, and information about many more formats is needed to fill in the set, with the focus on formats listed in the Recommended Formats Statement and those of special interest to evolving workflows for eDeposit especially formats supporting enhanced accessibility for screen readers, captions, subtitles, 3D, Virtual Reality and design and geospatial formats. The documents, called Format Description Documents or FDDs, are drafted in XML format and then converted to HTML for online display. Both versions are available for public use. Contractor shall provide digital format advice, analysis and reports based on expert experience and research.
