The Library seeks a design firm with extensive experience in designing exhibitions of high value collections and new visitor experiences for museums and cultural institutions with considerable foot traffic at select times of the year (1.9 million annual onsite visitors) to provide design services. The firm must have a proven track record in conceptualizing and developing creative storytelling and design approaches that tell an institution’s many stories. The Library seeks to create a new orientation and introduction to the Library in innovative and imaginative ways in order to best serve increasingly larger audiences, while also encouraging diverse audiences to visit and use the Library of Congress. Design services will cover the following areas: a “Welcome Area” for visitors entering the ground floor from 1st Street or from the underground tunnel connecting to the Capitol Visitor Center (CVC), including the transition stairway from the CVC tunnel entrance, and an “Orientation Gallery” featuring an exhibition about the Library—its history and its role today—and a showcase for Thomas Jefferson’s Library.
