Precision Medicine, including Precision Oncology and addressing health disparities in cancer care are organizational priorities for the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) that fall under the Cancer Moonshot 2.0 initiative. As precision oncology practice is standard of care, it is critical for all oncology providers to be competent in this domain. Tenets of precision oncology as standard of care for multiple cancers are published in numerous sources such as the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) guidelines. Precision Oncology is an approach to cancer treatment that considers the individual variability of patients, their tumors, and their genetic makeup. This approach seeks to tailor cancer treatment to each patient by identifying the unique molecular characteristics of their tumor and using that information to select the most effective therapies. The goal is to maximize treatment efficacy while minimizing toxicity and side effects. Advances in genomic sequencing technologies have greatly facilitated precision oncology by allowing for the identification of specific mutations and other genetic alterations that drive cancer growth. This approach has the potential to revolutionize cancer treatment by moving away from a one-size-fits-all approach to a more personalized and targeted approach that improves patient outcomes. VA has implemented multiple efforts over the few years to increase genomic sequencing for Veterans with cancer. However, providers’ knowledge about the application of genomic-based therapeutics is widely varied. The Contractor shall provide an online education/training course which serves to increase the number of VA clinicians who can translate rapid genomics advances into clinical genetic cancer risk assessment, precision treatment, management, and preventative care. VA seeks to engage a vendor that has an established track record of genomics education and certification for medical clinicians (physicians and advanced practice providers) in the United States. The VA requires this course to include a self-directed curriculum in which the VA providers can engage in training/education on their own schedule and at their own pace. The vendor must provide a post-test assessment to ensure that course objectives have been met by each student as well as for documentation of competency. Student progress and/or competency status must be kept by the vendor and reported to VA on an annual and ad hoc basis. The Contractor shall provide CME/ACPE/CEU-accredited training to VA clinicians in specialized medical oncology training to accomplish the following goals: Increase the number of VA clinicians (physicians and advanced practice providers) who can translate rapid genomics advances into clinical genetic cancer risk assessment, precision treatment, management, and preventative care. Monitor and report on student progress and/or competency via vendor reporting to VA on an annual and ad hoc basis.
