This required extensive modification of the ventilation system designated for the AAS. The physical footprint of the PinAAcle is essentially identical to our current instrument so no further adjustments and cost would be required. The lamps that we already have (to measure zinc, cadmium, and manganese) are compatible with the new instrument so we would not need to purchase new lamps, which would not be possible if purchased through another vendor. Less maintenance will be required compared to our current instrument because the sample induction module can be removed compared to the old AAS that requires removal of 4 individual sections which is much more a complicated and time consuming. While many aspects of the new 500 are different, the software, operation and maintenance are similar to our outdated instrument thus allowing a smoother transition with very little training required.
