Tyvaso is a prostacyclin vasodilator indicated for the treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension (WHO Group I) in patients with NYHA Class III symptoms, to increase walk distance. Unusual and Compelling Urgency: The requested drug will be purchased to the sole authorized distributor and an urgent or compelling need exists. Delay in the award would cause patient harm by delaying the medical facility s ability to provide prescribed medications to patients in a manner necessitated by their plan of care. Description of market research conducted and results or statement why it was not conducted: Limited market research was conducted due to limited authorized distributor of this medication. This is a commercial item available from Accredo Health Group. This particular drug is available under FSS 36F79720D0104 with United Therapeutics Corporation. United Therapeutics Corporation is the manufacturer but does not process the distribution of the drug. The VA Pharmacy orders this drug from the authorized distributor Accredo Health Group. Accredo Health Group does not have an FSS contract; however, they will honor the FSS pricing from the manufacturer.
