STATEMENT OF WORK SCOPE Contractor shall furnish all materials, parts, equipment, and tools for the below listed VIDAS III Analyzer for the Microbiology Laboratory at the Michael E DeBakey VA Medical Center, 2002 Holcombe Blvd, Houston, Texas 77030. All equipment shall be brand new, and all work shall be done in a first-class manner. The contract price shall be firm-fixed, all-inclusive not limited to specified products/equipment, installation, and setup/configuration. BACKGROUND The Microbiology Laboratory uses the Vidas III Analyzer to provide Procalcitonin (PCT) results as an aid in the risk assessment of critically ill patients for the progression to severe sepsis and septic shock. Additionally, the PCT result aids in decision making on antibiotic therapy for patients with suspected or confirmed lower respiratory tract infections such as community-acquired pneumonia, acute bronchitis, and acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease in an inpatient setting and/or in the emergency department. It aids in the decision making on antibiotic discontinuation for patients with suspected or confirmed sepsis and it has been proven that PCT levels can increase quickly, specifically in patients with a serious bacterial infection. PCT is therefore an important marker enabling differentiation between bacterial infection and other causes of inflammatory reactions.
