Brief Description of Supplies/ Services required and the intended use/Estimated Amount: The Gulf Coast Veterans Health Care System (GCVHCS) requires emergency service of the CATALYS® Precision Laser System to complete restorative maintenance on laser to ensure instrument performance meets standards for use. This contract will include all parts and labor associated with service. The unit will be service on-site at the GCVHCS in Biloxi, MS. Cost estimate is not to exceed $30,000. Unique characteristics that limit availability to only one source, with the reason no other supplies or services can be used: The device is a precision laser that is relied upon to make high risk eye surgery to ensure healthcare of patients. There is no secondary market for equipment maintenance that can reliably meet the Original Equipment Manufacturer s specifications. Description of market research conducted and results or statement why it was not conducted: Johnson and Johnson (J&J) is the original equipment manufacturer and maintains proprietary rights to the unit and all associated hardware/firmware. As such, J&J is the sole entity that can provide the necessary emergency repair services that are needed to restore the device to original manufacturer specifications Contracting Officer's Certification: Purchase is approved in accordance with FAR13.106-1(b).
