Background: The Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center (MEDVAMC) must process and sterilize all critical reusable medical equipment for the entire facility and CBOC s including surgical and dental instrumentation. To keep up with the demand for efficient processing of instrumentation the MEDVAMC is renovating and expanding the Sterile Processing Service (SPS) Preparation and Sterilization Area. SPS is replacing a broken AMSCO 600 Sterilizer in the department that no longer operable. Once this sterilizer is replaced it will increase the volume of instrument processing and speed up the process for sterilizing instruments for scheduled procedures and emergency procedures
