MER 8 Pump Replacement Questions Page 1 Our question pertains to whether to offeror in this section exclusively refers to the prime contractor? VA Response: The experience of the Prime Contractor only will be considered. In the description of services dictates to provide testing, balancing, and commissioning for a fully functional system. The existing pump set up does not have pressure ports for balancing. Is there an existing pre-balance report? VA Response: There is no existing balancing report available. Balancing will be descoped and is not required for this contract. Are Pete s Plugs (pressure/ temperature ports) required for the new installation? VA Response: No. What is required for the commissioning process? VA Response: Contractor is required to commission the pumps per the manufactures requirements to ensure full operation. The VA will not be hiring an external commissioning agent. It is understood that (1) VFD is malfunctioning and is going to be replaced prior to this project. Will this unit be programmed? VA Response: VFD will be programed by VA. Would you like both VFD s programed prior to pump commissioning of the new MER 8 Pumps on this project to be included in our scope/bid? VA Response: VFDs will be programed by VA. There is a large amount of material that needs to be transported through the hatch on the 10th floor by the bank of 4 elevators (B-8 through B-11) What is required to work in that space? Floor coverings, plastic barriers etc. VA Response: Contractor is required to protect the flooring with Masonite boards. Contractor to block Corridor from stairwell 1 to limit access. Can the area be utilized during normal working hours? VA Response: Yes. Are there any special provisions needed to work in the space (lockout of the floor on the elevators so the public cannot enter during the material transport, signage, etc.)? VA Response: Elevators doors can be blocked off with the 10th floor buttons marked out of service. VA to Lock out 10th floor of B wing elevator from the system preventing access. Note 23 indicates to modify all associated controls if necessary. Are control modifications expected? VA Response: No. Are the existing pressure differential switches functional? VA Response: Yes. Is there a piping specification that should be referenced for the suction diffusers/ gauges, valves, etc.? VA Response: Provide suction diffuser as follows: Body: Cast-iron with steel inlet vanes and combination diffuser-strainer orifice cylinder with 5mm (3/16 inch) diameter openings for pump protection. Provide taps for strainer blowdown and gauge connections. Provide Shut-Off Valves as follows: Ball Valves (Pipe Sizes 50 mm (2 inch) and Smaller): MSS SP-110, screwed or solder connections, brass or bronze body with chrome-plated ball with full port and Teflon seat at //2758 kPa (400 psig)// //4138 kPa (600 psig)// working pressure rating. Provide stem extension to allow operation without interfering with pipe insulation. Provide gauges as follows: ASME B40.100, Accuracy Grade 1A, (pressure, vacuum, or compound for air, oil or water), initial mid-scale accuracy 1 percent of scale (Qualify grade), metal or phenolic case, 114 mm (4-1/2 inches) in diameter, 6 mm (1/4 inch) NPT bottom connection, white dial with black graduations and pointer, clear glass or acrylic plastic window, suitable for board mounting. Provide red "set hand" to indicate normal working pressure. Provide brass lever handle union cock. Provide brass/bronze pressure snubber for gauges in water service. Range of Gauges: Provide range equal to at least 130 percent of normal operating range. Is there an electrical specification that should be referenced for the electrical disconnects? Switches shall be in accordance with NEMA, NEC, UL, as specified, and as shown on the drawings. B. Shall be NEMA classified General Duty (GD) for 240 V switches, and NEMA classified Heavy Duty (HD) for 480 V switches. C. Shall be horsepower (HP) rated. D. Shall have the following features: 1. Switch mechanism shall be the quick-make, quick-break type. 2. Copper blades, visible in the open position. 3. An arc chute for each pole. 4. External operating handle shall indicate open and closed positions, and have lock open padlocking provisions. 5. Mechanical interlock shall permit opening of the door only when the switch is in the open position, defeatable to permit inspection. 6. Fuse holders for the sizes and types of fuses specified. 7. Solid neutral for each switch being installed in a circuit which includes a neutral conductor. 8. Ground lugs for each ground conductor. 9. Enclosures: a. Shall be the NEMA types shown on the drawings. b. Where the types of switch enclosures are not shown, they shall be the NEMA types most suitable for the ambient environmental conditions. c. Shall be finished with manufacturer s standard gray baked enamel paint over pretreated steel. PART 3 - EXECUTION 3.1 INSTALLATION A. Installation shall be in accordance with the NEC, and manufacturer s instructions. B. Fused switches shall be furnished complete with fuses. Arrange fuses such that rating information is readable without removing the fuses. 3.2 ACCEPTANCE CHECKS AND TESTS A. Perform in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations. In addition, include the following: 1. Visual Inspection and Tests: a. Compare equipment nameplate data with specifications and approved shop drawings. b. Inspect physical, electrical, and mechanical condition. c. Verify tightness of accessible bolted electrical connections by calibrated torque-wrench method. d. Vacuum-clean enclosure interior.
