The VA Medical Centers (VAMC)s in VISN-12 have a need to share imaging across its medical center locations. The Chiefs of Radiology at each station in VISN 12, determined that it is in the best interest of patient care if all stations had a system which allows sharing of images. The VISN needs a platform enabling healthcare providers to access and transfer images with a patient being seen at any VAMC in the VISN. The VISN needs the capability for a patient being transferred to have their images move with them without have to have the imaging retaken creating delays to critical care. The VISN needs providers at the Oscar G. Johnson VAMC, the Clement J. Zablocki VAMC, and the VA Illiana Healthcare system to be able to share images with the Jesse Brown VAMC, the Edward Hines VAMC, the Capt. James a Lovell FHCC, the Tomah VAMC and the William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital. The VA PACS is a medical imaging technology that provides economical storage and convenient access to images from multiple modalities. Electronic images and reports are transmitted digitally via PACS. Currently the Oscar G Johnson VAMC, the Clement J. Zablocki VAMC and the VA Illiana Healthcare System have the Medicom ImageX Signaling system to transfer images. The remaining VISN VAMCs need the Medicom ImageX system or a compatible software/system to share patient imaging across the VISN.
