The purpose of this amendment is to answer questions, update the statement of work, and provide updated schedule quantities. Question and Answer Update Question #1: The statement of work calls for two types of processing. Auto-clave/shred and incinerate. Would the VA be willing to allow just auto-claving without shredding as a method of disposal? Trace Chemo and Pathological waste must be incinerated and would stay that way. Answer #1: The VA wants to ensure that all waste is properly disposed in a manner that is in accordance with federal, state, and local requirements. We are not aware of any VA requirement or regulation that specifically states that disposal must include shredding. Therefore, we are modifying the SOW to eliminate auto-clave/shredding and replace it with just auto-claving any waste that is not identified as Trace Chemo and pathological. Statement of Work Update Contractor shall disinfect and destroy all regulated medical waste in one of two methods: Incinerate all regulated medical waste in an incinerator that is EPA approved for infectious waste. Contractor must possess a permit to operate incinerator from the proper authority in the areas of jurisdiction where the incinerator is located. OR Autoclave all regulated medical waste. The autoclave process must be proven sufficient to make all waste safe to dispose in a licensed landfill. In the event a contractor chooses the autoclave approach there must be a contingency plan for dealing with ball joints, body parts, and other infectious wastes which cannot be autoclaved. Specifically, a contractor shall provide a detailed plan to address this issue as part of their proposal. Contractor shall maintain all updates with any approved coordinated changes with EMS personnel. Any process must be sufficient to destroy any potential identifiable information in order to ensure adequate security of patient information in accordance with industry standards. Below are the updated totals for the CLIN s based upon a re-estimated schedule. However, for all interested quoters we are going to add language to the contract stating that we may add up to a 20% increase to the quantities identified through subsequent contract modifications to allow for possible unforeseen circumstances.
