The purpose of this amendment is to publish the following vendor questions and Government responses: Question: Do you need straight potassium chloride then processed with liquid Mag? Answer: As long as the Ice Melt is a potassium chloride/magnesium chloride blend to use in structures and not sodium chloride it will be fine. The magnesium acts as a corrosion inhibitor allowing the ice to be melted and the potential damage to metal and concrete in the structure to be minimalized. Question: In the solicitation it states "potassium chloride prill that is coated with magnesium chloride liquid" - I'm being told by manufacturers and distributors that the Magnesium Chloride Liquid will essentially act as a glue once it is applied, leading to a solid state for the Ice melt. Answer: As long as the Ice Melt is a potassium chloride/magnesium chloride blend to use in structures and not sodium chloride it will be fine. The magnesium acts as a corrosion inhibitor allowing the ice to be melted and the potential damage to metal and concrete in the structure to be minimalized. Question: Will bulk totes be acceptable for delivering the ice melt? They do require a forklift. Answer: Bulk totes are not acceptable. Only bulk material delivered by a dump truck will be acceptable.
