Nature and/or Description of the Action Being Processed: The government requires the emergency acquisition of N95 respirators Max Air Caps supplies for our staff to be able to test and treat Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients. Purchase order 36C24820P0725 was awarded in the amount of $64,250.25 on 02/04/2020 for 80 masks to prepare for COVID-19. However, after two confirmed positive cases were found in Florida, and Veterans being tested at JAVHVH, Modification P0001 was awarded on 03/03/2020 to increase order for masks in the amount of $267,488.53. Description of Supplies/Services Required to Meet the Agency s Needs: EMERGENCY Max Air Caps personal protective Equipment (PPE) is needed to test and treat COVID-19 at JAHVH. COVID-19 is a highly infectious respiratory disease that can be easily transmitted to our VA population traveling in Florida, Canada, Georgia, California, and other Northern areas. Two presumptive positive cases were found in Florida on 03/02/2020. 3rd positive case was found in Florida on 03/03/2020. This is an urgent and compelling need for the VA to have readily available equipment to protect our Staff so that they can treat COVID-19 patients. Due to limited stock of N95 respirators and no clear solution availability in the industry, and the level of the virus threat, these supplies were needed immediately. This was a one-time Emergency.
