The purpose of this tank is oxygen scavenging and pre-heating of the boiler feedwater used to make steam. The component is a pressure vessel that should not be operated in a condition where the integrity of the vessel is uncertain, the tank is being depressurized and bypassed today. The system can be operated without this component for 3 days utilizing supplemental feedwater chemical treatment, after that period there is a risk of damage to boiler internal components. A temporary tank must be rented and connected so that a licensed boiler inspector can assess the extent of the issue and make a recommendation for repair. The inspection and repair process will take more than 3 days, necessitating the use of a temporary unit.
