Please see attached 1449 RFQ Background: The Erie VA Medical Center and associated Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs) currently use basic wheeled office chairs (furniture, not medical equipment) for eye exams. The Erie VA Medical Center does not have a suitable alternative solution for repositioning patients at the proper height and placement with various eye exam equipment. Our Veterans often need help getting into and out of the chair multiple times during an exam because there is no safe way to change the height and placement of the patient without them getting out of the chair. In addition, since the wheels on the chair do not lock, each time in and out creates a fall risk. The Erie VAMC requests an Eye Exam chair (medical equipment) designed to allow the patient to be transported between rooms and repositioned for different devices quickly and safely for staff and patients. It needs to have a repositionable backrest, armrests, footrest, a lockable, stable base, and a push bar to allow the staff to move the patient from one place to another so that the patient only must sit down and get up once during the exam. This chair should have a powered handheld remote to adjust the height of the chair to put the patient in the optimal position for an accurate eye exam result. In addition, it should provide the staff with an ergonomic working position that doesn't require unnecessary bending forward or manually assisting patients in and out of the chair multiple times.
