IFB 36C24224B0004 January 19, 2024 Project # 526-21-110 Install Aerosol Extraction System in Dental Below is a compiled list of all RFI s submitted for this solicitation with VA/AE responses to RFI s 1-12. Contractors must bid accordingly. RFI 1) Please confirm if the work in 18 rooms must be completed in 3 phases. VA/AE RESPONSE: There are 18 dental rooms to be completed under three phases. Phase 1 shall be full installed commissioned and punchlist completed before the start of phase 2. Phase 2 shall be full installed commissioned and punchlist completed before the start of phase 3. Contractor will be responsible for terminally clean each room before turning over to Owner. RFI 2) Drawing GI-002 phasing plan and keyed indicates to build temp partition wall and, door and ICRA measures in front to each room. Please confirm this is correct. VA/AE RESPONSE: Confirmed. However, the COR may allow a plastic zipper door in lieu of a partition and wall if the room ceiling tiles are replaced at the end of each work shift to maintain the room fire rating and if dust is kept minimal. Sticky mats are still required. RFI 3) Drawing MH-001 general note no.15 states to replace all the damaged ceiling tiles. Please provide the ceiling tile s manufacturer and item number. Spec section 09 51 00 states Basis of Design: Section 09 06 00, SCHEDULE FOR FINISHES. But there is no spec section 09 06 00. Please provide this missing section. VA/AE RESPONSE: ALL ceiling tiles must be replaced for consistency, not just damaged ceiling tiles. New tiles shall be Armstrong model 868B. RFI 4) Drawing MH-102 is interstitial floor plan. It shows AES-1, 2 and 3 on new concrete pads. Will VA allow to remove the window so that concrete can be poured with help of a concrete pump? VA/AE RESPONSE: The mechanical room extends up to include the interstitial floor level, therefore no windows can be removed. The contractor should plan on bringing bagged concrete to the site. RFI 5) The new duct work must be installed in interstitial space, but it is very crowded. Please confirm a 10 diameter ductwork will have a room for installation inside. VA/AE RESPONSE: The new ductwork will require coordination however it will fit in the interstitial space. RFI 6) Drawing MH-701 has a list of Nederman equipment parts list. Please confirm all these equipment must be furnished and installed by the contractor. Does the installation of each Arm in each room must be done by a certified Nederman installer or can contractors mechanic install? VA/AE RESPONSE: Drawing MH-701 calls for 16 Nederman arms. The contractor is required to provide 18 Nederman arms and all appurtenances required for a complete operational system. The contractor s mechanic may install this work per the Nederman installation instructions. RFI 7) Please advise what will be the work hours for the work inside the 18 rooms? And inside the interstitial space and mechanical rooms? VA/AE RESPONSE: Construction hours should be normal operating hours. 8 am 4:30 pm is typical for most work tasks. A slightly revised schedule may be considered, if approved by the VA and COR. These hours are the same for the interstitial area and the mechanical room. The COR shall indicate the construction hours for penetrating the interstitial ceiling slab and the mechanical room wall construction. To confirm, ALL work associated with penetrating the interstitial slab will be done on off hours, after 4pm in order to avoid disruption to existing Dental clinic. Contractors must bid accordingly. RFI 8) Please confirm all the new ductwork is galvanized. VA/AE RESPONSE: All new ductwork is medium pressure aluminum ductwork per MH-701 detail 3, note #1. Gauge thickness shall be per SMACNA standards. RFI 9) There is a spec section 01 45 35 for Special Inspections. Please clarify what inspections are required for this project and does contractor have to hire an independent inspection company? VA/AE RESPONSE: No special inspections are required other than those performed during standard commissioning. RFI 10) Drawing GI-002 note no.3 states anti rooms shall be provided for each area/phase of construction, the rooms shall be maintained under negative air pressure. Please clarify if negative air machine is required in each/for individual room? VA/AE RESPONSE: Dental rooms shall be constructed under negative pressure. Contractor may temporarily remove room supply air ductwork and use opening to tie negative pressure machine into dedicated exhaust located in the interstitial space above. RFI 11) Drawing GI-002 note no.3 states to drill hole from interstitial space above down to above the dental chair. --- Please advise what is the composition and thickness of the interstitial slab? VA/AE RESPONSE: The interstitial slab is concrete and thickness is approximately 6". RFI 12) Please advise what kind of final cleaning work is required from the contractor? VA/AE RESPONSE: Dental chairs must be fully covered and protected. Vacuum all construction dust and debris and thoroughly wipe down room. Contractor shall terminally clean each room before turning over to Owner. END OF RFI RESPONSES
