Rural Food Locker Program
The Department of Veterans Affairs seeks to expand a food locker program across five rural and highly rural sites, starting with a proof of concept in West Palm Beach. The program provides secure, 24/7 access to medically tailored groceries for Veterans screened for food insecurity and diet-related diseases. Its goal is to overcome barriers like transportation, limited pantry hours, and stigma. The initiative uses an interdisciplinary framework to connect Veterans with food and wraparound services. This effort is a partnership between the VA's Food Security Office and the Office of Rural Health.
