Physics-Based Model to Quantify the Fire and Toxic Hazard of Li-Ion Batteries
The Federal Railroad Administration intends to award a sole-source contract to Jensen Hughes, Inc. to continue developing a physics-based model that quantifies fire and toxic hazards of lithium-ion batteries in rail applications. This follow-on effort will use module-level test data to calibrate and validate the model, building on cell-level data from a prior competitive award. Jensen Hughes is uniquely qualified due to its specialized data and technical continuity from the initial phase, and awarding to another source would cause duplication of cost and delays. No budget amount is specified in the notice. The location for performance of services is not mentioned.
