AMSIS will provide an aerospace medical information network that integrates critical, security sensitive medical information generated from geographically distributed national and international locations. AMSIS critical data may be used for regulatory enforcement purposes in addition to interfacing with a variety of agency mission related databases. The AMSIS program provides for the procurement of services for the design, development and deployment of a new information system. The program objectives include providing: Automated data processing to improve productivity for the collection/storage, review, and analysis of sensitive medical information for Airmen and ATCS; Tools for AAM to analyze resulting information to make risk-based policy decisions; Data access through secured methods that are easily accessible without compromising data security, while enabling appropriately authorized government personnel to access the information for decision making; Operational support to FAA and National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) accident investigators with toxicology and autopsy information; Financial systems to support budgeting of program resources and invoicing and payment associated with medical investigations The system will: Improve the processes for comprehensive access to data, improving timeliness and accuracy (such as e-authentication) while reducing paper-based correspondence. Enable more effective collaboration within the aviation community and among properly authorized personnel, designees, and applicants. Provide improved automated handling and analysis of biological specimens from victims of fatal aircraft accidents and acquisition of autopsy information for distribution to accident investigators and medical researchers.
