PROJECT NUMBER: CA ERFO NP SEKI 2021-1(1) PROJECT NAME: Generals Highway Wall Repairs PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This project includes emergency repairs to multiple sites on Generals Highway and Mineral King Road within Sequoia and King’s Canyon National Park from 2021 wildfires. The wildfires burned off wall facing, burned guardrail, caused burned trees to fall on/damage guardrail, and eroded embankment at a curb location. SCOPE OF THE WORK: The primary scope of work is reinforced shotcrete facing of 8 Mechanically Stabilized Earth (MSE) walls, curb repairs at one location, and various guardrail repairs. Guardrail repairs include removal of damaged rail/blocks/posts, replacement of rail/blocks/posts, and installation of new guardrail and terminals. PRINCIPAL WORK ITEMS: 56603-0000 Reinforced Shotcrete: 2,210 SQYD (includes coloring) 60101-0000 Concrete: 45 CUYD (concrete footing for shotcrete facing) 61702-1500 Terminal Section, Type MGS Tangent: 5 EACH 63501-0000 Temporary Traffic Control: LPSM ESTIMATED COST RANGE: Schedule A estimated total cost is $700,000 - $2,000,000. MISCELLANEOUS: Sequoia and King’s Canyon National Park will have multiple construction projects active during the anticipated construction season. Temporary traffic control coordination between projects with the park will be crucial. Reinforced shotcrete wall facing is the majority of the work of this project. The sites are somewhat spread out along Generals Highway. Some work is in higher elevations that receive considerable snow (primarily guardrail and curb repairs), while other sites are at lower elevations and do not have seasonal weather concerns. Timing of work among these sites related to seasonal weather should be considered. The wall work is all within 2 miles of each other (between mileposts 4 and 6). Guardrail work occurs between mileposts 3 and 39. The curb repair location is between mileposts 44 and 45. The curb repair location includes, but is not limited to, debris removal, existing curb removal, installation of new curb, new riprap, and asphalt paved ditch. The guardrail work is primarily replacing small quantities of damaged items, such as rail, posts, and blocks. Some terminal sections need replacing. There is one stretch of guardrail to be fully replaced. Guardrail is to be fixed/replaced in-kind. Temporary traffic control will generally be single lane closures. This is total small business set-aside.
