The CA FTNP/NPS YOSE 500(5)918(1) Southside Drive & Bridalveil Falls Parking project is located in Yosemite Valley, within Yosemite National Park in Mariposa County, California. This project includes reconstructing the existing Bridalveil Falls Parking lot, adding dedicated bus loading and unloading pullouts on Southside Drive including a pedestrian plaza, constructing a sanitary sewer force main and electrical joint trench within Southside Drive from Northside Drive (west of the Pohono Bridge) to the parking lot, and reconstruction of approximately 800 feet of the existing 12-foot wide historic Carriage Road (trail) to create an accessible path of travel between the Southside Drive bus stop and the Upper Bridalveil Falls Trail. The Bridalveil Falls Parking lot work also includes the following: Reconfiguring the existing parking lot to add approximately 20 parking spaces Widening, resurfacing and adding a left-turn lane on Wawona Road at the parking lot entrance intersection Regrade/raising the northeast end of the parking lot to reduce flooding New sanitary sewer lift station located adjacent to the parking lot Removal of the existing vault toilets The Southside Drive work will include a new bus loading and unloading platform on the south side of the road to reduce pedestrian/vehicular conflicts currently caused by busses parking on the north side of the road. This work also includes exposed aggregate concrete, granite stone curbs, and stone face seatwall. The Carriage Road trail work also includes asphalt paving, embankment construction, and rockery retaining walls to reduce profile grades for accessibility. All of the work is occurring in natural resource sensitive areas. Construction phasing, temporary traffic control, and timely completion of construction will be crucial to minimize disruptions to park visitors throughout construction and achieve customer satisfaction. The Bridalveil Falls parking lot will be closed during construction. Traffic will need to be maintained on Southside Drive and Wawona Road during construction with minimal delays. Traffic control plans will need to consider roadside parking along Southside Drive within the active work zones.
