The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has a requirement for a redesign and replacement of the irrigation system and general surrounding landscape. The current system floods certain areas of the lawn, does not sufficiently irrigate others, and wastes water in general. The FAA anticipates that rather than upgrading/modernizing the current irrigation system, that many sections can be demolished or abandoned in place. Additionally, some earthwork (resurfacing), providing and planting different plant species, and boulder placement is contemplated.
