The National Park Service (NPS) has issued a revised solicitation for applications to provide guided hiking and astronomy tours through the issuance of Commercial Use Authorizations (CUAs) within the Summit District of Haleakala. The NPS will issue up to six (6) guided hiking CUAs and up to four (4) astronomy tour CUAs, following a competitive selection process based on resource protection, ability to operate safely, and the ability to interact effectively with NPS staff. These CUAs will be authorized for a 2-year period, beginning January 1, 2021 through December 31, 2022. The solicitation that was open from October 15-November 15, 2020 has been cancelled. Those who applied to that solicitation must resubmit their applications under this solicitaion to be considered, for no additional application fee, by the new deadline. Note that clarifications have been made to the application package. All interested parties are encouraged to review the application package closely, particularly areas highlighted in yellow that spotlight the clarifications to the application package. The NPS issued this solicitation beginning November 20, 2020. The CUA application package is attached to this solicitation announcement or can be requested by calling or emailing Lahela Park, Acting CUA Program Manager, at (808) 572-4440 or HALE_Commercial_Manager@nps.gov. Completed applications for a CUA to provide visitor services within Haleakala National Park must be received no later than 4:00pm Hawaii Time on December 21, 2020, to be eligible for the CUA selection.
