Per 36 CFR § 51.11, the NPS is cancelling the solicitation for concession contract CC-GRCA002-20. The open solicitation, which required proposals to be submitted in March 2019, did not anticipate the economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on the subsequent award. Accordingly, the NPS has determined that cancelling the solicitation is appropriate in the public interest so that the NPS may monitor how the COVID-19 pandemic has affected and will continue to affect the travel, hospitality, and recreation industries especially within units of the National Park System prior to issuing a new solicitation. The NPS anticipates issuing the new solicitation in 2022. In the interim, the NPS awarded a 3-year temporary contract to the current concessioner, Grand Canyon North Rim, LLC, to avoid an interruption of visitor services. The temporary contract expires on December 31, 2023.
