The Bureau of Reclamation, Pacific Northwest Region, Grand Coulee Dam has a requirement to improve and modernize the Block 31 Elevator, located in the Grand Coulee Block 31 Tower. This is a unique elevator with two (2) modes of operation, passenger and freight. The elevator is operated with two (2) DC motors in tandem and has been in operation since its original installation around 1942. The work specifications to be performed include modernizing the Block 31 elevator while preserving and refurbishing the existing DC motors, upgrading hoist way lighting, improving temperature controls in the machine room, and providing fire detection and alarm systems compatible with current Grand Coulee Power Office systems. This construction period of performance is estimated to be approximately 365 days, beginning in October 2019.
