This amendment is to answer a question posed as follows. Question: Attachment #2 - Section III "Scope of Work" - line 3 notes - "...provide materials to create a 3-dimensional tactile BRONZE (OR LIKE MATERIAL) map model........." I have a number of non metallic materials in mind that are durable and can be paint to have a faux bronze finish - -would this be acceptable or is the "OR LIKE MATERIAL" mean a form of metal? Answer: The preferred material is bronzed for the following reasons: Bronze creates a casting that shows sufficient detail to both sighted and non-sighted people so they can distinguish between the elements depicted. It is durable It is not easy to destroy The material is consistent throughout and will not wear away (as in a painted surface) It stands up to daily wear of human hands, with oil and dirt, touching it It will not come apart It will not fade It will not break down in extreme temperatures It will not need to have regular maintenance as in repairs or painting That said other materials are acceptable if they meet these criteria Another material must create a tactile object that shows sufficient detail to both sighted and non-sighted people so they can distinguish between the elements depicted It must be durable It must not be easy to destroy The material is consistent throughout and will not wear away (as in a painted surface) It must stand up to daily wear of human hands, with oil and dirt, touching it It must not come apart It must not fade It must not break down in extreme temperatures It must not need to have regular maintenance as in repairs or painting For information regarding this solicitation contact Dorothy Qualley, (402) 661-1664, dorothy_qualley@nps.gov
