ROCR 326756 - Trail Crossing Safety Improvals, Gates, and Signage Project Scope: 1. Beach Drive Gates – a. Description – This work will replace outdated, aging traffic gates along Beach Drive. Much of Beach Drive is closed to cars year-round and the traffic gates are normally in the closed position except for maintenance and emergency vehicle access. Many of the existing gates are failing structurally, have outdated retroreflectorization/signage, and do not facilitate the movement of pedestrians and bicyclists on Beach Drive. NCR and ROCR have developed preliminary concepts for the gate replacements. A standard gate replacement detail is needed that (1) meets the specific needs of Beach Drive while (2) providing the flexibility to be utilized at various Beach Drive cross-sections. Accessibility improvements, such as raised tactile surfaces, may also be required. b. Locations – Priority locations for gate replacements based on the conditions of the existing gates are listed below. However, the detail for the replacements should allow the flexibility for the future gate replacements throughout Beach Drive. i. Broad Branch Rd NW ii. Parking Area 10 iii. USPP D3 Station 2. Trail Crossings a. Description – This work will improve safety at several trail crossings in ROCR. Work is to include installing crosswalk markings, warning signage, accessibility ramps, and raised crosswalks/speed humps. Standard details are anticipated to be used for this work with adjustments in field. b. Locations – i. Wise Road and Western Ridge Trail ii. Wise Road and Rock Creek Trail iii. Blagden Avenue and Valley Trail 3. Beach Drive Speed Limit/Pedestrian Crossing Signage a. Description – This work will replace existing speed limit signs and install warning pedestrian/bicyclist warning signage along Beach Drive. Please see the attached document for the full notice.
