The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has a requirement for a Yose Canyon Dam is located on an ephemeral draw in the Bird Draw watershed. The site consists of an earthen stock pond impoundment that has been flanked by an advancing knickpoint. Over time, the stock pond has filled with sediment delivered by the watershed and become elevated above the natural grade of the surrounding valley floor. The wedge of sediment behind the stock pond forced concentrated flow around the north side of the dam and created a large knickpoint and channel avulsion that migrated around the impoundment. The avulsion created a new channel over 1,000 feet long contributing roughly 19,500 tons of sediment. A second knickpoint has formed from a tributary draw that if left unmitigated, will result in a similar scale of sediment recruitment. Sediment delivery will be exacerbated by erosion of the material stored upstream of the impoundment and from the material in the impoundment. SE1/4, SW1/4, Sec. 28, T28N, R112W.
