The Department of the Interior, U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), Volcano Science Center (VSC), has a requirement for a new order for Micromeritics SediGraph Plus III Automatic Particle Size Analyzer P/N 512/50000/0089 from Micromeritics of Norcross, GA. SediGraph III Plus, Particle size analyzer is an instrument using the pipet method and based on Stroke¿s Law of sedimentation, with the use of X-rays to determine settling rates and concentrations. Micrometrics is the only known manufacturer of analytical equipment to meet the Government¿s minimum needs of measuring particle size of sediment samples. USGS has been using the SediGraph as part of their analytical services since the late 1980s. Utilizing alternate equipment, if any were even available, would result is skewed data results between instrument types. Continuity of data is required to maintain the long-term data set. No other commercial vendor has the capability for supplying these units in accordance with Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) 13.106-1(b) and the procedures of FAR Part 12, entitled, Acquisition of Commercial Items. Other interested concerns having the ability to provide these supplies may submit a capabilities statement to the Contracting Officer via email at cjfejarang@usgs.gov no later than the closing date of this announcement on January 28, 2022 at 12:00pm PDT. All submissions will be evaluated to determine if competitive opportunities exist.
