The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), intends to negotiate a purchase order with Verder Scientific in Newtown, Pennsylvania for providing a grinding mill to prepare soil and plant samples that pulverizes and homogenizes the collected material as described in the required features and specifications below. Award will be made in accordance with Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) 13.106-1(b) and the procedures at FAR Part 12 entitled, Acquisition of Commercial Items and FAR Part 13 entitled, Simplified Acquisition Procedures. Verder Scientific is, to the USGS¿ knowledge, the only source who can provide the griding mill to meet all the specifications listed below. The purpose of this notice is to satisfy the requirements of FAR Subpart 5.2. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive quotes. However, all responsible parties may submit a quotation by the closing date of this announcement which shall be considered by the agency. No solicitation will be issued. A determination not to compete this action based upon responses received is in the sole discretion of the Government. Specifications: Brand Name or equal to: Retsch Mixer Mill MM500 Capacity - 6 grinding stations that allow for 6 vials x 20 mL (sample material) or with adaptors, up to 50/60 smaller vials. Resolution - Frequency of 35 Hz that allows for grinding of samples down to 5 micrometers, has a fast grind time and high throughput. Sample type - Can grind dry, wet, or frozen samples Accessories - Range of jar sizes (1.5 to 50 mL) and available materials. Software - ability to store standard operating procedures, store cycle programs, and control of the device using a phone app.
