NOTICE OF INTENT RAMAN IMAGING MICROSCOPE This is a notice of intent to solicit from a single source. The US Geological Survey (USGS), intends to award a Purchase Order to Thermo Electron North America LLC in Madison, WI for a Raman Imaging Microscope as described in the Salient Characteristics below. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS - Raman Imaging microscope to be used for identification of minerals and organic molecules and to map their occurrence across thin sections - Brightfield/ darkfield, and transmission illumination - 532 nm laser - 785 nm laser - Changeable objective lenses including 10x, 50x, and 50x long working distance - Ability to set laser power in mW units - AUTOMATIC alignment and calibration - AUTOMATIC sample stage and mapping capability - Software for spectral analysis and mapping ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Award will be made in accordance with Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) 13.106-1(b) and the procedures at FAR Part 12 entitled, Acquisition of Commercial Items and FAR Part 13 entitled, Simplified Acquisition Procedures. Thermo Electron North America LLC is, to the knowledge of the USGS, the only source who offers a product the meets all of the specs, in particular the automatic features as seen above. The purpose of this notice is to satisfy the requirements of FAR Subpart 5.2. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive quotes. However, all responsible parties may submit a quotation which shall be considered by the agency. No solicitation will be issued. A determination not to compete this action based upon responses received is in the sole discretion of the Government. The North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code - 333314, Optical Instruments and Lens Manufacturing, and associated size standard 500 employees apply to this announcement, along with Product Service Code 6640, Laboratory Equipment and Supplies.
