This Justification and Approval (J&A) provides for the U.S. Department of Labor, Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA), Pittsburgh Safety and Health Technology Center (PSHTC) to acquire 65 Small Rocket Lift Device (SRLD), Model Self Contained Self Rescuers that can be utilized during an emergency escape to generate oxygen while removing carbon dioxide from a user’s breath. Proper use of such breathing devices provides a safer and healthier working environment for Miners, Mine Inspector’s, and Rescuer’s during a mine emergency event.
