The Asset Forfeiture Units are responsible for enforcing civil and criminal forfeiture prosecutions related to seized property derived from the proceeds of or used to facilitate federal crimes. The United States Attorneys Manual (USAM) provides that whenever required by the nature of the case, the attorney assigned to the case shall assure that the agency files or records a notice of the pendency of the action or lis pendens among the proper local records, except in those jurisdictions where the law is settled that the commencement of the action Is notice to all persons affected (USAM 5-7.520). Each year the 94 USAO AFs record approximately 5,000 lis pendens. The Contractor shall independently provide support services to satisfy the overall operational objectives of the EOUSA and the 94 USAOs throughout the United States by electronically recording (e-recording) a lien or lis pendens in county or other state/local offices. An estimated 5,000 lis pendens and 200,000 liens may be recorded annually by the 94 USAOs.
