SCOPE 1.1 Intent. This work item describes the requirements for the Contractor to clean and inspect ventilation systems listed in Table 1 and their associated dampers and ducting. REQUIREMENTS 3.1 General. 3.1.1 CIR. None. 3.1.2 Tech Rep. None. 3.1.3 Protective measures. The Contractor must furnish and install all protective measures in accordance with SFLC Std Spec 0000, paragraph 3.3.3 (Vessel component, space, and equipment protection). 3.1.4 Interferences. The Contractor must handle all interferences in accordance with SFLC Std Spec 0000, paragraph 3.3.5 (Interferences). Known interferences include, but are not limited to the following: Ducting screens Ventilation covers Piping Insulation Lights Electrical wiring Cableways Ventilation fans 3.1.5 Notification. The Contractor must provide written notification to the COR, a minimum of 48 hours prior to starting ventilation cleaning work. 3.1.6 Temporary ventilation. The Contractor must provide adequate temporary ventilation to each compartment that is affected by the shipboard ductwork cleaning or by securing associated fans, in accordance with the requirements of paragraph 3.1.1.1 (temporary ventilation) of SFLC Std Spec 0000. NOTE Coast Guard personnel will operate all shipboard machinery and equipment. 3.2 Operational test, initial. Prior to commencement of work, the Contractor must witness Coast Guard personnel perform an initial operational test of the ventilation system included in this work item, to demonstrate existing operational condition. The Contractor must measure the air flow rate (in CFM) at all vent terminals within the scope of this work specification using a Contractor provided flowmeter. The flowmeter must be in good working condition and have current calibration certificate. Submit a CFR. 3.3 Pre-cleaning visual inspection. The Contractor must perform a visual inspection of the ventilation systems listed in Table 1 using a borescope prior to cleaning. Submit a CFR with inspection results, including photographs of the duct interior. 3.4 Marking. The Contractor must mark the positions of all dampers and air-directional mechanical devices within the vent system(s) before cleaning. Return the settings to their marked positions upon completion of ventilation cleaning. 3.5 Ventilation cleaning. The Contractor must clean and inspect the ventilation systems listed in Table 1 including removed intake and exhaust screens, access covers, and all internal associated equipment (i.e. dampers, fan coil units, cooling coils, filters, blower wheels, fan electric motor etc.) to a condition free from dirt, grease, lint, impurities, and any other foreign matter. Perform cleaning and inspection in accordance with SFLC Std Spec 5100, paragraphs 3.4 through 3.5 (inclusive of all subparagraphs). Submit a CFR. 3.6 Insulation resistance testing. The Contractor must perform insulation resistance test on fan electric motor in accordance with ANSI/ESA AR 100 and submit a CFR with results. 3.7 Ducting access. The Contractor must remove sections of ducting where necessary to ensure all interior surfaces of ducting are cleaned. Any removed sections of ducting must be restored to original configuration. Renew all disturbed gaskets. 3.8 Post-cleaning visual inspection. The Contractor must perform a visual inspection of the ventilation systems using a borescope following cleaning. Submit a CFR with inspection results, including photographs of the ducting interiors. 3.9 System restoration. Upon completion of all work, the Contractor must ensure the vent systems are completely assembled with all covers and screens and all foreign materials are removed from the systems. Renew all disturbed gaskets in accordance with the Coast Guard Drawings listed in Section 2. NOTE Coast Guard personnel will operate all shipboard machinery and equipment. 3.10 Operational test, post repairs. After completion of work, the Contractor must thoroughly test, in the presence of the Coast Guard Inspector and demonstrate all items or shipboard devices that have been disturbed, used, repaired, altered, or installed to be in satisfactory operating condition. In addition, perform the following tasks: 3.10.1 Inspect all duct joints for leaks. Submit a CFR. 3.10.2 Take flow rate readings at the same locations with the ventilation system running. Compare the flow rate readings with the pre-cleaning readings. The flowmeter must be in good working condition and have a current calibration certificate. Continue cleaning until flow rate readings meet or exceed the design flow rates per Coast Guard Drawings 750-WMSL-512-001 and 750-WMSL-512-059. Submit a CFR. 3.11 Touch-up preservation. The Contractor must prepare and coat all new and disturbed surfaces to match existing adjacent surfaces in accordance with SFLC Std Spec 6310, paragraph 3.1.13 (Touch-ups and minor coating repairs). 4.
