FEMA intends to award a contract for Direct Lease homes to provide housing assistance to survivors of Hurricane Helene in North Carolina, as authorized under Section 408 of the Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Act. Following the hurricane, over 4,900 individuals have been displaced, living in shelters, hotels, and group settings due to significant home damage or complete loss caused by floodwaters and mudslides. Extensive infrastructure damage, including destroyed roads, bridges, and contaminated water supplies, will require long-term rebuilding efforts, making continued housing support necessary for the affected individuals.
