Laboratories and Scientific Services Directorate (LSSD) is the scientific, forensic, and technical wing of CBP. Both the main CBP Los Angeles Laboratory and the San Diego Forward Operating Laboratory (FOL) analyze samples submitted for latent print development and examination. Border Patrol Agents along the international border, HSI Agents from the Los Angeles, CA and San Diego, CA area and Foreign Operations Branch (FOB) routinely submit evidence to the laboratories. CBP Los Angeles Laboratory intends to expand its latent print processing capabilities at both locations. It is the intention of the Customs and Border Protection Los Angeles Laboratory to purchase a vacuum metal deposition system to visualize developed latent prints on evidence in support of CBP’s mission to provide forensic services.
