The laboratory seeks to purchase and install a DVM specifically designed for the analysis of petroleum crude oils, distillates, petroleum products, biodiesel (B100), biodiesel blends (B0 – B20), and petrochemicals. This Commercial Off the Shelf (COTS) instrument comprises all components necessary to measure density and viscosity of crude oils, petroleum distillates, biodiesel, and petrochemicals based on the ASTM methods D7042 and ASTM D4052/D5002. This instrument will aid CBP in its mission to facilitate legitimate international trade while protecting the Homeland from counterfeit and mislabeled materials. Identifying the nature of the crude oils, petroleum distillates, biodiesel, and petrochemicals crossing our borders will help prevent misclassification or fraud in the correct application of duties and fines.
