A good portion of canc... Dr. Leorey Saligan’s laboratory at NIH focuses on studying biologic correlates of cancer-related fatigue (CRF). Cognitive dysfunction is one of the co-occurring symptoms of CRF. A good portion of cancer patients report distressing CRF and cognitive dysfunction months or even years after completing cancer therapy. These distressing symptoms contribute to poor treatment and health outcomes, but the mechanisms of both symptoms are unknown. In direct response to recommendations from the Board of Scientific Council, Dr. Saligan is looking for ways to explore biobehavioral correlates of CRF and its co-occurring symptoms. This collaborative research allows NINR and Dr. Saligan to access cancer patients who are seen in clinical sites. Having access to these samples will identify central and peripheral correlates of the CRF and its co-occurring symptoms.
