2027 NIAID DMID Omnibus Broad Agency Announcement: Development of Medical Interventions for Infectious Diseases
NIAID/DMID seeks proposals under a Broad Agency Announcement to advance R&D of candidate therapeutics, vaccines, and diagnostics for infectious diseases, including drug-resistant pathogens, aligned with strategic plans and NIH priorities such as rigor, biosafety, and non-animal testing. Research Area 001 focuses on needle-free vaccine candidates for viral pathogens, covering preclinical development, IND-enabling studies, GMP manufacturing, regulatory submissions, and a Phase 1 or early Phase 2 clinical trial. Research Area 002 supports new therapeutic products for serious infectious diseases lacking approved or effective treatments, including specified viral, bacterial, and fungal pathogens, through lead optimization, preclinical IND-enabling studies, and Phase 1 or proof-of-concept Phase 2 trials; preventative treatments are excluded. Research Area 003 seeks innovative in vitro diagnostic technology platforms for broad viral pathogen detection, preferably fully automated, point-of-care, sample-to-answer systems with rapid results under 2 hours and high sensitivity from low pathogen loads. NIAID cannot provide advice or feedback on specific technical approaches, and proposals must be submitted online via the NIAID eCPS website with no other submission method permitted.
