The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Northeast Medical Products Laboratory (NMPL) needs liquid nitrogen and related gas tank rentals to maintain the operation of its nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR) instrument. Gas tank rentals are associated with the delivery of liquid nitrogen supplied by the vendor. Liquid nitrogen is used as a coolant to cool down the magnet of the NMR instrument. The NMR magnet is installed in a liquid helium dewar with a temperature of ~4 K in order to generate the necessary strength of magnetic field for NMR operation. Liquid nitrogen is used to cool down the helium dewar to prevent the liquid helium boiling away. In addition, liquid nitrogen is used to cool down NMR cryogenic probe. The cryogenic probe needs a working temperature as low as 77K (boiling point of the liquid nitrogen) to maintain its performance for NMR signal detection. Therefore, both liquid nitrogen and related tank rentals are essential for the operation of the NMR instrument. See attached Solicitation for full details.
