AHRQ requires national data on physician practices, hospitals, nursing homes, and home health agencies owned by integrated health systems. This information will be used to achieve AHRQ’s priority to produce evidence to measure and enhance the efficiency of health systems. These data will allow AHRQ staff to analyze variations in quality and resource use for specific integrated health systems and to identify the factors that differentiate higher-performing (more efficient and higher quality) from lower-performing systems. To achieve these goals, AHRQ requires information on the census of physician practices for the U.S. including individual physician National Provider Identifier (NPI) linkages to integrated health system names.
