The purpose of this requirement is to procure the American Medical Association (AMA) Year End 2020 Physician Master File. The AMA Physician Master File is unique, the only source of information on physicians that combines current information on locations and practices with information regarding their training and specialty. As the major membership organization for physicians, the AMA is in a unique position to compile and assure the completeness of this data. As well, this data is proprietary data of the AMA, and Medical Marketing Service, Inc. (MMS) is the sole supplier authorized by the AMA to market the Physician Masterfile. This master file is needed to estimate current health occupational supply at the state and national level and to track health workforce trends over time, and ensure that HRSA is able to compare these trends from year to year.
