The purpose of this contract is to maintain MedlinePlus by ensuring its genetic and rare disease content is updated and enhance the information by providing a patient’s perspective. Incorporation of the patients' perspective in health information is critical to ensure that content created reflects topics, which matter most to patients, and encourages patient participation in decision-making and self-management. Tangible deliverables of this contract consist of "Alerts" for updates to existing materials as detailed in Section D (Tasks to be Performed), below. The “Alerts,” will highlight content that needs to be updated (for example, a new gene associated with a particular health condition) or confirm that the existing content is accurate and does not need any changes. This project will leverage the skills and resources of an organization with access to a broad variety of genetic and rare disease support and advocacy groups. The contractor will use their contacts among the various genetic support and advocacy groups. The services will build on existing processes, templates, and documentation established and refined over the past 9 years to update Genetics Home Reference content which is being transitioned to MedlinePlus.
